(This didn’t go out yesterday when I wrote it. I missed a step on this new-to-me platform. Here it is anyway!) It’s April Fools Day and here's to him, the foolish and glorious fool.
He's the one who is willing to be visible in this time of dangerous change. When the rules and boundaries aren't clear, he’s right out there anyway. Here's to her or him, the daring companion of the King, the one who's willing to point to the shadow side, often risking mightily to do it.
April Fools Day is a good day to appear for the first time here on Substack and connect with readers interested in consciousness and connection. It's part of my own fool's quest - I sometimes think of it as a pilgrimage - to show up up more in this topsy-turvy time of reset.
The times seem to be calling out for our participation and showing up, even as the risk for doing so rises higher. There's a risk in showing up but there's also a risk in not showing up. Each person has to navigate the territory for her or himself. Skill is needed, but also connection and community. (And daring!)
So here's to welcoming the Fool, however he or she shows up for you. Here's to following the heart and being willing to make mistakes if it’s in service to something greater than us.
I think the call to personal participation is the hidden message of our time. Other’s can't do it for us. And we're loathe to do it ourselves because the world’s message is to hunker down and do what the others are doing. But the need remains to do our own inner work and to show up for our deepest calling. Part of the message of the Fool is that it's OK to trust the process and find our own way.
