It’s an experience.
We check into what’s going on for you personally and connecting it to what’s going on for other men.
Takes an hour and a quarter or a bit more.
The first time, come 1/2 hour early so we can instruct you as to protocol. This is necessary for first timers.
What happens in Inner Life of Men - Experience?
The training will make it clearer but it still won’t fully prepare you.
This is a structured personal conversation in which you take 5-minute timed turns with another man around a question like "Tell me your experience as a man." You take timed turns speaking and listening.
As Speaker you’re simply witnessed. You take in the question, look for something that’s true about that and tell it to the Listener so that he can understand. Then you contemplate again and speak again. Five minutes.
As Listener you keep your eyes on the Speaker for the whole five minutes. You refrain from eating or drinking, checking notifications, nodding in agreement or smiling along. When it’s done, you say Thank You.
You let the Speaker have his experience without getting in the way. When it’s your turn again to be Speaker, you don’t refer to the other man’s stuff.
We practice a radical clarity - even a ritual clarity - around not fixing, advising, or helping the other. Let the man have his own experience and let yourself have yours. We’re equals, whatever kind of man we are and whatever we’re experiencing.
The truth is we’re not broken or wounded.
Afterwards participants reflect together on what struck them in their “dyad” and then join with the larger group to explore the common space further.
It’s often felt as deeply revealing and relieving (to simply have time to share and time to listen deeply). Come join us.
It’s a short trip to a look at something new. It’s safe in the small group (men explore in dyads or pairs). We reflect in the larger group. Takes an hour. Can open a door that changes your life, seriously.
